Carriage of bicycles, luggage and animals

Do you like travelling by bike? You don't have to do without it on the eurobahn.

Bicycles are generally welcome on our trains in the multi-purpose compartments, even if they cannot be guaranteed due to the space available. One bicycle per person is permitted and a bicycle ticket must be purchased for this.

Number of bicycle parking spaces on our trains

  • RE 3 and RE 13: maximum 30 bicycle spaces, distributed over several multi-purpose compartments

  • RB 50, RB 59, RB 69, RB 89: maximum 30 bicycle parking spaces, distributed over several multi-purpose compartments

What else needs to be considered:

  • E-bikes, pedelecs, e-scooters, tandems, recumbent bikes or tricycles may also be carried in the designated bicycle parking areas, provided space is available.
  • There is no entitlement to the carriage of bicycles. Wheelchair users and travellers with pushchairs have priority at all times. Separately used child trailers are treated in the same way as pushchairs. However, less space must be expected. The on-board or travelling personnel will decide whether there is enough space to carry bicycles. It is not possible to take non-folding bicycles and non-folding electric pedal cycles on rail replacement services.
  • Foldable bicycles and foldable (e-)scooters folded up before the journey have the status of hand luggage.
  • Two-wheelers with combustion engines (e.g. mopeds or mopeds) may NOT be taken on local transport.
  • Side bags must be removed before boarding.
  • It is not possible to make a reservation.

Small animals, cats and dogs are generally allowed on our trains. However, animals must always be placed in a transport box provided for them. If this is not possible, you must ensure that the safety of the animal and that of other passengers (and other animals) is not jeopardised. This applies in particular to animals that have a contagious disease. If dogs cannot be accommodated in a transport box, they must wear a muzzle and be kept on a lead.

In NRW, dogs are transported free of charge. In Niedersachsentarif, dogs may only travel with a ticket (at the price of a child - children's ticket). With the Niedersachsen-Ticket, a dog pays the price of an additional person. As each passenger must be named on the Niedersachsen-Ticket, your animal companion should also be named.

Out of respect for other passengers, please ensure that animals are not allowed on the seats. Assistance dogs and guide dogs for the blind that are authorised to travel with you will of course always travel free of charge to support their owners. Passengers are always responsible for their own animals. If they cause (material) damage, the person or owner responsible is liable.

Clear passageways on the train can be vital for survival. Therefore, these - as well as all door areas on the train - should always remain clear. This is for the safety of you and other passengers. We as eurobahn and the train crew reserve the right to exercise our domiciliary rights if passengers do not comply with the requests of the train crew.

The exact conditions for the carriage of bicycles, animals and luggage are regulated in the respective conditions of carriage of the federal states. You can also find these in our Download Centre.
