Two countries - one ticket
Good news for cross-border commuters: If you use the RB 61 from Germany to the Netherlands, you only need one ticket. For journeys to Hengelo or Oldenzaal, the Niedersachsentarif applies: www.niedersachsentarif.de. This applies regardless of whether you start your journey on the German or Dutch side. You can buy your ticket at the Nederlandse Spoorwegen N.V. (NS) service counter or directly from the ticket machine on the train.
Once in Venlo and back!
Travellers on the RE 13 to Venlo. Here, the VRR-Tarif applies all the way to the Netherlands and back. The flat-rate tickets of the NRW-Tarif (SchönerTagTicket, SchöneFahrtTicket) are also valid as far as Venlo. Further conditions:
- Holders of severely disabled passes require a VRR ticket of price level A for the Dutch section Kaldenkirchen-Venlo. The same applies to the NRW SemesterTicket.
- Students with a VRR SemesterTicket do not require an additional ticket for the journey from Kaldenkirchen to Venlo.

The Deutschland-Ticket enables cross-border journeys to Hengelo or Venlo!
Tips for travellers to and from Hengelo and Oldenzaal:
- The Niedersachsentarif also applies from Münster and Bielefeld for journeys to Hengelo.
- The WestfalenTarif and NRW-Tarif are not valid to Hengelo.
- Tickets can be purchased after boarding at the ticket machine on the train or online.
- The travel authorisation for persons with a German disabled person's pass is only valid as far as Bad Bentheim. Onward travel to the Netherlands is possible at the normal fare. You can easily obtain your ticket from the ticket machine on the train.
- The Niedersachsentarif day ticket for bicycles is valid for any number of journeys on local trains within the Niedersachsentarif area of validity on the day of validity. Depending on the departure station, you can alternatively choose the Bike Day Ticket at the flat rate of the DB tariff.

Through the Netherlands with the OV-chipkaart
For journeys within the Netherlands, the Dutch fare system applies: the OV-chipkaart, a type of rechargeable prepaid card with which you have to check in or out at the card reader at the station before or after a train journey.
For RB 61 in Hengelo and Oldenzaal at "blauwnet". As there is no special chip card for tourists, it is best to purchase a one-off (paper card) or an anonymous OV-chipkaart (reusable card). You can obtain both at a ticket counter or ticket machine at the railway station as well as in various newsagents or supermarkets.
