180 trees for the overhaul of part of the eurobahn fleet in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe-Netz network
Düsseldorf/Bielefeld/Delitzsch, 3 April 2023 - On Monday, 27 March, instead of impact wrenches, spades were put to work in Delitzsch, Saxony, as part of the overhaul of a total of seven eurobahn traction units.
The reason for the whole thing is the sustainability clause that eurobahn included in its Europe-wide tender for the overhaul of seven Bombardier Talent (BR 643) traction units. RailMaint can call the contract its own with its plant in Delitzsch. The sustainability clause contained in the contract obliged the contractor to plant one tree for every 10,000 euros of turnover. The first alders, willows and ash trees were planted on the Werbener Graben in Delitzsch at the end of March. "We are proud that we as eurobahner are not resting on our laurels when it comes to sustainable train travel, but are actively helping to shape sustainability," say Klaas Korte, Head of Supply Chain Management, and Michael Hasal, Senior Project Manager Heavy Maintenance at eurobahn.
District Administrator of the district of North Saxony Kai Emanuel is also enthusiastic about the joint campaign of the two companies and was happy to take the opportunity to lend a hand and plant the first trees. eurobahn is investing a total of 1.8 million euros in the IS600 (maintenance) of the seven VT vehicles used on the Ostwestfalen-Lippe-Netz. The traction units will undergo a general overhaul within a year; the last vehicle will leave the Delitzsch workshop for Bielefeld-Sieker in autumn 2023 to continue reliably transporting eurobahn passengers on the Ostwestfalen-Lippe-Netz for many years to come.
In figures, this means, for example, that 21 car bodies will be inspected and 28 bogies will be refurbished. Furthermore, doors, windscreen washer systems, couplings, wagon transitions as well as train control systems and brakes are inspected and maintained. "With RailMaint as maintenance experts, we have a strong and sustainable industry partner and look forward to working together to strengthen the environment and the region," adds Michael Hasal, Senior Project Manager Heavy Maintenance at eurobahn.
