Holiday destinations in the region

The summer holidays have begun and the weather is slowly getting into the season. This means that nothing stands in the way of a day trip to East Westphalia, the Teutoburg Forest or the Ruhr region. With "eurobahnland", eurobahn presents many ideas and varied excursion tips.

Düsseldorf, 22 July 2024 - Timetable adjustments and a shortage of skilled workers are the topics that are currently of particular concern to eurobahn and its passengers. Nevertheless, the rail transport company is taking the opportunity to provide inspiration for the summer holidays and all those who are at home and have time with "eurobahnland", showing how summertime in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony can be used in a varied and enjoyable way. All of these destinations can be reached by train and bus, so that the excursion begins with an environmentally friendly journey. In addition to the Externsteine, Hermannsdenkmal and the German Football Museum, the region between Osnabrück and Dortmund has much more to offer. From idyllic hikes and picturesque castles to interesting city trips, there are plenty of suggestions. Here is a selection of excursion tips:

Kaiser Wilhelm Monument in Porta Westfalica

Enjoy the view of and from the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument, one of our national monuments in Porta Westfalica. Directions: Take the free shuttle bus number 518 from Porta railway station, which runs at weekends.

Osnabrück Old Town

Historical flair, shopping or an afternoon in one of the cafés: visitors to Osnabrück's old town have that city holiday feeling. Directions: From Osnabrück main station, take bus 10, 15 or M2 to the Nikolaizentrum.

Peters Schokowelt in Lippstadt

Those with a sweet tooth can experience the world of pralines and chocolate with all their senses at Peters Schokowelt, e.g. on the chocolate rally or the adventure tour. Directions: Take the RegioBus R62 from Lippstadt railway station to the Hansastraße stop.

The wave in Gütersloh

Wave pool, giant slide and water fun - young and old will get their money's worth in Gütersloh. Directions: Many buses stop at the "Die Welle" stop at Gütersloh main station, it is about 20 minutes on foot between the main station and the swimming pool

Bentheim Castle

Take a journey into the past and follow in the footsteps of over 1000 years of history at Burg Bentheim. Directions: From Bad Bentheim train station, take bus number 60 to "Zentrum" and walk five minutes to the castle.
